"Abim serious in youth development"

KUCHING: The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) in collaboration with the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) is serious in its efforts in the development and self-development of youths in the state.

Sarawak Abim president Muhammad Hazim bin Azahari said he hoped youths in the state could benefit from the programme as it emphasised the aspects of self-development.

“In this programme, it emphasises on (4K), Family, Career, Finance and Union.

“In addition, the programme is also encouraging the youth to play a positive and effective role for the society and country, especially in Sarawak,” Hazim told reporters at a press conference after officiating at the Youth Leadership Colloquium held at the Youth and Sports Complex at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here, yesterday.

“This programme is the first to involve the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) and we hope it will continue to be organised in the future especially in Sarawak and Sabah,” Hazim added.

Meanwhile, Hazim said the voting age limit of 18 years old is a matter that needs to be discussed seriously.

“This matter involves the future of our youths. So we do not want them to vote without thinking rationally as it also involves their future.

“The government should play its role such as organising programmes for those 18 years old and below before they are allowed to vote,” he added.

The programme organised by Abim were attended by Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) president Jufitri bin Joha and 120 representatives of youth associations and students from Community Colleges.
